The MaTRIarchy Triathlon Club

Welcome to the MaTRIarchy Triathlon Club, a community of women who enjoy triathlon for the fitness and friendship it can provide them.  We provide a supportive environment for all of our athletes to thrive.  Our club offers training, events, and a strong network of like-minded women.  Join us to see how much fun training together can be!

An Unconventional Start

Who starts a triathlon club before ever having participated in a race?  Before even really training for one?  It seems Jenn does.

Jenn Dundas had always thought she would enjoy triathlon.  She loved swimming and biking and swears she ran (slowly) in her younger years.  But, as is the case for so many women, establishing her career, then starting her family meant that she put herself lower and lower on her list of priorities.

In 2022, after watching her 4 children thrive in the Kids of Steel program, Jenn decided that she was going to try it herself.  She committed to doing the 2023 St Malo Try-a-Tri and started looking for a club or program to get her ready.  Unfortunately, she didn't find one.  The clubs were all very welcoming and friendly, but so very intimidating for a women who was now overweight and out of shape.  There were online training programs, but they didn't offer the accountability and support she needed.  Training alone was daunting.  In this search, she heard of the Just Tri-It (JTI) program based out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  With the support of their program and Triathlon Manitoba, Jenn introduced Just Tri-It to Winnipeg in 2024.  The program quicky filled with like-minded women training for their first race.

While planning JTI Winnipeg, Jenn put "Start a Women's Triathlon Club" on her 5-year plan and mentioned that to Jared Spier, Executive Director of Triathlon Manitoba.  A month later, and before JTI Winnipeg even started, with the push (more like giant shove) from Jared, the MaTRIarchy was born.
